In honor of Bill Simmons

So I stated that I really like and admire Bill Simmons the writer for ESPN. What I like so much about him is his "Lists" and Memes. I'll provide an example, and I sorta created my own list, certainly not as good, but hey, I'll share it.


First Mine..I created this sort of "Token White Guy" list, which states white artists or singers who aren't rappers but are respected in the hip hop community.

The people who are included on this list are Justin Timberlake, Colby O'Donis, Chris Martin, Adam Levinge, John Mayer and a new member is Andy Samberg.



Now for my favorite Simmons memes.

Ewing Theory

One of Simmons's most used Internet memes has been the Ewing Theory,^[13] which was conceived by reader Dave Cirilli and named after Patrick Ewing of the New York Knicks. In 1998-99, the Knicks made the NBA Finals after Ewing sustained an Achilles' tendon injury. Thus, the Ewing Theory claims that when a longtime superstar who has never won a championship leaves the team via injury, trade or free agency, and the media writes the team off, the team will play better.

Examples would be Nomar Garciaparra when he got traded from the Red Sox and they won their first World Series in 86 years that season. Another one is Tiki Barber retired from the Giants and they won the championship that year as well.

Emilio Estevez All Stars

In a September 19, 2008, column, Simmons created the Emilio Estevez all-stars. The team is named in recognition of people with Latino names who don't look remotely Latino.

In his August 10, 2007 mailbag, Simmons, with a reader's help, added a new category "The Lindsey Hunter All Stars", a list of male athletes with names that make them sound like a hot girl.
